Jewish Views on Abortion and Reproductive Justice

We’re excited to bring Dr. Michal Raucher, Associate Professor of Jewish Studies at Rutger’s University, to Columbus, Ohio as our 2023 Scholar-in-Residence. Dr. Raucher is the author of “Conceiving Agency: Reproductive Authority among Haredi Women”.

Dr. Raucher has dedicated 50% of her honorarium to the Jewish Fund for Abortion Access through the National Council of Jewish Women.

Friday, February 3

  • 5:30-6:45 pm: Kabbalat Shabbat / Ma’ariv
  • 7:00-7:30 pm: Shabbat Dinner (Prior registration required)
  • 7:30-8:30 pm: Lecture: “Abortion According to the Rabbis: What do Jewish Texts Teach Us about Abortion?”

Saturday, February 4

  • 9:00 am-12:00 pm: Shabbat morning services featuring a D’var Torah by Dr. Michal Raucher
  • Following services / 12:00 pm: Kiddush lunch + talk by Dr. Michal Raucher: “Our Choices, Our Stories: Jewish Experiences with Abortion”
  • 7:00-7:30 pm: Sponsor’s Reception (Sponsors only)
  • 7:30-7:45 pm: Havdalah service
  • 7:45-9:00 pm: Dessert and Lecture: “Be Fruitful and Multiply: Reproduction in Israel” (Prior registration required)

Sunday, February 5

  • 10:00 am: Chesed Event: Please join us for an educational session as we prepare care bags for patients of local abortion clinics. High school students and their families are encouraged to attend!
