Tifereth Israel Religious School THE SAMUEL M. MELTON RELIGIOUS SCHOOL Congregation Tifereth Israel proudly renamed its Religious School in 1990 to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Synagogue's honorary president Samuel M. Melton. For many decades, Sam Melton's generosity was devoted to the improvement of Jewish education at every level. He inspired the creation of Tifereth Israel's pilot program and funded the research center at the Jewish Theological Seminary, which created materials and trained teachers for supplementary schools all over the country. He also endowed programs at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at The Ohio State University, and provided leadership support in countless other endeavors to make Jewish education a meaningful part of the lives of young people. Sam Melton passed away in 1993. We are very proud to carry his name and his legacy in our search for the constant improvement of Jewish education at Tifereth Israel.
